Here in Yardley, an aqueduct carries the canal over Brock Creek. A waste gate control not in this photo is opened in stormy weather to prevent Brock Creek flood water from entering the canal, causing damage to the canal due to overflow. 10/18/03
The bridge crossing the canal is carrying Afton Avenue, Yardley over the canal. The building on the left was formerly the Yardley General Store. It was used by the Underground Railroad prior to the Civil War to aid runaway slaves. The photo is looking South. 10/18/03.
